Okay, back to my story........

I made a plan, for 8 weeks I'd wake up early four times a week and try to jog a little bit before work.

I'd start eating healthier (after I felt pains while running) and I even learned to make some appetizing, healthy meals so I could stick to the diet.

I stopped drinking soda and started drinking water (I had forgot what water tasted like)

My plan wasn't exactly the success I had hoped for. I stuck to it for about FOUR days. Then I got lazy and didn't get out of bed when the alarm rang. After a few days of "postponing" my training I felt horrible and it was near impossible for me to start up again. So less than a week had gone by and I was back to where I started.

The race was quickly approaching and had already failed before it began.

A few weeks later I was having lunch ( a greasy lunch) with a friend. The company he worked for had landed a contract doing work for a gym that was going open nearby and as a result, he was being given a personal trainer's services for free.

Thinking back, he might have been planning this "coincidence". I told him that I was happy for him and that being in shape was important.

He then asked me the question I had been dreading my entire life. The one question that I had hoped no one would EVER ask me.

He asked me, "If you really are so miserable, I don't understand why you do something about it? And please don't tell me you've tried, because I know you better than that, if you REALLY want something, you'd do it."

I knew he was right. In everyone's life, there comes a certain point of no return. A moment where they know that whatever decision they make right then and there will have a huge impact on the rest of their lives. For me, that was the moment.

If I told my friend that I had tried and that I couldn't do it, I would NEVER be able to. However, I also knew that if I told him I was going to try and that I was going to succeed, and I BELIEVED it and committed to it, that nothing would stop me.

I told him about the race and how I was going back and forth about starting to train and getting myself in shape for it.

The next day I went back to my exercise and diet plan. It was the same exact plan as before, but the only difference was that this time, I stuck to it.

I adjusted my priorities and made ME and my health come first. I ran four times a week, (although I didn't run very far at first). I didn't care how far I ran, as long as I got into my gym clothes and left my house (sometimes it wasn't even to the corner). The most important thing I was doing was JUST DOING IT. Once I beat my laziness, the running became easier. When jogging got too boring, I bought a bike and started biking. Slowly, my weight started to come off and my energy and happiness levels went way up.

Two months I ran that 3 mile race with my entire family and my uncle. Nobody believed I would make it, but I did!

Even after I found it easier to keep working out.. I kept setting goals for myself and I hit them.

It took me almost the entire following year, but I succeeded in my goal of losing 100 pounds. The day that happened I celebrated by going on a run. Clearly, I was a different person. It was the greatest moment I've ever felt in my entire life.
